Fear Is A Liar 2019 - present
A multimedia body of work committed to pausing amidst the chaos of contemporary culture. I began the series after driving behind a Penske truck with sticker letters on the center of the roll down door reading, FEAR IS A LIAR. In a time where children are being torn from their parents at our border, our president is a bigot, racist and crook, and the climate is irrevocably changing for the worse, amongst other things - I really wanted to believe it to be true. The work in this series consists directly of works across drawing and textile that all incorporate found text or image that feel, to me, irreconcilable in todays cultural moment.
Ten Days to Believe: Fear Is A Liar, charcoal on paper, aluminum, 2019
The first work in this body is a series of 10 drawings. It is said that if you repeat a mantra for 10 consecutive days, it should start to dramatically impact you. I attempted this drawing.
