Untitled Prostheses: Length Wrist to Ground, Volume of Kneeling, Weight of a Migraine
custom concrete mix, steel
2013 - 2016
The first pieces in this series of sculptures, the wrist pieces, were cast while on residence at Anderson Ranch Center for Art in 2013. As a person who has lived with chronic injury, I felt compelled to explore how the body moves in space and how by changing imagined appendages, an entire reality can be altered. Each piece in the series was made 1 per year, from 2013 - 2014 - 2015. Each is also made with the extraction of a wax body cast of a portion of my body. The concrete was poured over a cast of my wrist, legs, and head and neck.
